Our commitment to providing not only premium marking and warning tapes but also an unparalleled customer experience has led to a significant product improvement – our upgraded product packaging. The Decision to Upgrade

We continuously evaluate our products and listen to valuable feedback from our customers. Customer feedback led us to recognize that the traditional packaging of marking and warning tapes – standard spools – presented impractical challenges during the installation process; rolls can unspool, causing inconvenience and disruptions. This commitment led us to a pivotal decision: the upgrade of our marking and warning tape packaging.

Collaborating closely with our trusted box supplier, we set out to create a product box that aligns seamlessly with the needs and challenges faced by the professionals who use our products.

Key Features of Upgraded Product Packaging:

We worked closely with Hood Container Corporation to create a box that serves our customers by creating a premium experience that reflects the premium quality of our marking and warning tapes.

One important feature we required in the box was the ability to easily dispense our products including those embedded with tracer wire. The team at Hood Container created a box design that featured a spool within the box, which allows the tape to be able to smoothly dispense out of the box.

There are numerous reasons why our new packaging is a better fit for our customers, including these key features:

• Enhanced Protection – While not fully waterproof, the box has been coated with a varnish, significantly improving its ability to withstand wet conditions compared to regular cardboard. This feature helps to protect our products during transit, storage, and use, even in less-than-ideal weather conditions.
• Improved Handling – Our boxes feature precut handles and a side dispenser which allow the box to be placed on the ground during installation, eliminating the need to carry a spool over the length of the trench. Additionally, the use of a box instead of a spool prevents the tape from slipping off the spool’s core, which can be cumbersome and time-consuming for employees to deal with.
• Storage & Logistics – This packaging upgrade not only simplifies the installation process but also ensures greater protection for our marking and warning tapes during transit and storage. Clear labeling and an overall user-friendly design make product storage more convenient than traditional rolls, providing all essential information on one easy-to-read label. Each label shows the SKU along with the information contained in the SKU (i.e., product name, width, color, …) without requiring a document or other resource to decode this information.

• 6” width (SX06*) – Comes in a 24” x 24” x 9” box containing 1,000 feet for configurations without tracer wire and 500 feet for configurations containing tracer wire.
• 12” width (SX12*) – Comes in a 24” x 24” x 15” box containing 1,000 feet for configurations without tracer wire and 500 feet for configurations containing tracer wire.

Trenchtape™ Underground Warning Tape

• 20” width (SX20*) – Comes in a 24” x 24” x 24” box containing 1,000 feet for constructs without tracer wire and 500 feet for configurations containing tracer wire.

Tracetape® Detectable Marking Tape

• 4” width (TT04*) – Comes in a 24” x 24” x 9” box containing 500 feet.

• All widths/SKUs – Comes on a 3” inner diameter (ID) roll of 1,000 feet. Packaging is dependent on the total quantity purchased.

• All widths/SKUs – Comes on a 3” ID roll of 1,000 feet. Packaging is dependent on the total quantity purchased.

3M™ Pathmarking Tapes

• 4” & 6” width tapes - Come in a 25” x 25” x 8” box containing 500 feet.

Spool Lengths

We are often asked about the spool length of our products. Typically, our nondetectable tapes are packaged in 1,000-foot spools/boxes and our detectable tapes (containing tracer wire or RF markers) are packaged in 500-foot spools/boxes. Detectable tapes are generally on shorter spools due to the size and weight of the integral tracer wire.
